Model History: The model blank and decals were produced by Marketing Aids (subcontractor for Douglas) in the 1960s. I acquired them from a private collector in May 2000. They were refinished by James Powroznik Custom Models, Clovis, CA. and acquired on September 18, 2000.

Air Afrique's DC-8 History: Air Afrique was established in 1961 to provide passenger and cargo service within the 12 West African Nations of Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Cote d'Ivore, Congo, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, TChad, Togo & Guinea Bissau. The airline also served Europe and the United States from some of these nations. Air Afrique cooperated closely with French Airline - Union de Transports Aeriens for assistance in growth and technical support. This cooperation with UTA is reflected by Air Afrique's DC-8 leases and purchases from the French Airline. In addition Air Afrique was on Original Factory Delivery Customer of the DC-8 and received four of them directly from Douglas. Click Here to See Air Afrique's DC-8 Fleet Information. Due to financial difficulties in the late 1990s and early 2000s Air Afrique stopped flying in January 2002 and declared bankruptcy in February 2002. Another wonderful airline is gone.
