Refinished Douglas Factory Polished Aluminum Model
Dimensions: Length:
25.0" (63.5cm), Wingspan 21.5" (55cm)
Condition: Excellent
Model History: The
model blank and decals were produced by Marketing Aids (subcontractor
for Douglas) in the 1960s. I acquired this model in its original
Delta Livery (though in a later Delta DC-9 Scheme) from an eBay
seller on February 28, 2004. I had hoped to clean up and hand
polish the model - leaving the original livery in tact. While
the bare metal surfaces polished out nicely, unfortunately the
painted and decaled surfaces still had a lot of marks & chips
in them. I could have left the model in it's present condition
and rate it as "good condition" at best. My other alternative
was to have it refinished using a set of decals in Delta's Delivery
Scheme - with the Delta Widget on it's side, pointing forward,
rather than the widget pointing up which was the standard for
Delta's aircraft. In fact, Delta only used this "side widget"
paint scheme for a couple of years and only on the DC-9 before
changing the widget to point upward so it conformed to the scheme
on all other Delta aircraft. After considering the model's condition
and having the decals to do the model in the earlier delivery
scheme I decided to go with the refinish. Click
here if you would like to see photos of the model prior to restoration/refinishing.
Once again, my friend Jim Powroznik did an Outstanding Job in
refinishing it and I am thrilled to have this rare Delta Livery
in my DC-9 collection! Thanks Again Jim
