Model History: The blank for this model was made for me by my friend Gary Field using a pattern from an Original Douglas Factory DC-8-50 blank. In early 2003 I sent it to my friend Roger Jarman at Atlantic Models for finishing & received it back on June 13, 2005. The folks at Atlantic did a Great Job of Finishing Off This Model using a Set of Very Old Decals. Many Thanks To Roger & The Staff At Atlantic for their Usual Fine Work!

Riddle Airlines 's DC-8 History: In 1945 John Paul Riddle started his own airline named Riddle Airlines. Riddle was based in Miami and began services in 1946 with charter flights between Miami and Puerto Rico. In 1947, Riddle acquired additional aircraft, World War II Surplus Military Aircraft that had been converted for civilian use, and concentrated more on hauling freight than passenger charters. Two significant developments took place in 1951. First, Riddle was granted CAB authority to haul scheduled freight between New York, Miami & Puerto Rico. Second, Riddle acquired United States Airlines, which further expanded their freight routes to Detroit & Chicago. Throughout the 1950s Riddle concentrated on this freight network, with some passenger charter business as well. In 1960 Riddle added 2 DC-7s to the fleet to operate Military Transport Flights (for the Military Airlift Command aka MAC) and group charter flights. This move helped "even out" the revenues from freight versus passenger charters. On September 20, 1963 Riddle entered the Jet Age with the delivery of their first of two DC-8F-54 aircraft, which could be easily be converted from freight to passenger use or vise versa. Prior to Riddle receiving their second DC-8F-54 in June 1964, the company's name was officially changed to Airlift International Incorporated in March 1964. Airlift International went on to operate several DC-8 types from 1964 until they ceased operations in 1991.
